About the event

Lately, there’s been growing attention in the media around the abuse faced by sports officials. High-profile former referees like Wayne Barnes (rugby union) and Mark Clattenburg (football) have spoken out about the treatment they endured during their careers. And they’re not alone - I'm sure other examples come to mind.


Sadly, this abuse is one of the main reasons many officials are choosing to step away from the game. It's becoming a serious issue, leaving many sports struggling to find enough officials to keep competitions running smoothly at all levels.


But it’s not all negative. Officiating can be incredibly rewarding. It’s a way to stay connected to the sports we love, give back to our communities, and play an important role in making sure games are fair and enjoyable.
